The Thing and Human Torch stare.

July is superhero month. After Superman hit the skies, the baton was passed to Marvel, which is ready to introduce the world to its iconic group in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Can the MCU entry open to great heights? Below are the odds and predictions for The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ box office during its opening weekend.

What Is The Fantastic Four: First Steps About?

Please welcome Marvel’s First Family into the MCU.

The Fantastic Four consists of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Set in a 1960s-retro futuristic alternate universe, the Fantastic Four are tasked with protecting their world from the planet-consuming cosmic enemy known as Galactus and his herald, the metallic-skinned Silver Surfer.

Galactus gives the superhero team a choice: give up Franklin Richards, the son of Reed and Sue, and he will spare Earth. Judging by the footage, the Fantastic Four don’t agree to the terms and will fight to protect their home.

The rest of the cast includes Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, Natasha Lyonne as Rachel Rozman, Paul Walter Hauser as Harvey Elder/Mole Man, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.

WandaVision’s Matt Shakman directs First Steps, the opening movie in Phase Six of the MCU.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters on July 25, 2025.

Marvel is hoping for a $100 million opening to start Phase Six.

Polymarket has First Steps opening between $135 million and $145 million (+150). The initial reviews are mixed to positive, so expect the tracking to come down and land in the $115 million to $125 million range.

Disney is hoping this July weekend will prove to be a winner for the second consecutive year. In 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 26 and recorded the highest opening for an R-rated film ever with $211.4 million in the U.S. and Canada.

First Steps will be lucky to cross $140 million, but a $125 million opening would be a good start for a new franchise.

It will be interesting to see how Superman plays domestically in its third week. Will it gain or lose its audience to First Steps?

Update

Fantastic Four opened to $118 million domestically (+1567).
