The 2025 Laver Cup is in San Francisco, California this year. That would lead tennis fans to believe that the top ranked American men tennis players, led by new World Captain Andre Agassi, would make up the majority of the team.
That is turning out to not be the case. Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul withdrew last week because of injuries. They were replaced by Alex Michelsen and Reily Opelka.
Now Frances Tiafoe has withdrawn from the event, and he is replaced by Australian Alex de Minaur. Tiafoe is a Team World mainstay and was confirmed to play last month. It is unclear what changed.

Tiafoe is representing the US this weekend in Davis Cup action against the Czech Republic in Delray Beach, Florida.

Laver Cup Through The Years
This is the seventh editon of the Laver Cup. In its inaugural year in 2017 in Prague, Team Europe won. Team Europe won four more (2018: Chicago, 2019: Geneva, 2021: Boston, and 2024: Berlin.) Team World won its first in 2022 in London which was Federer’s last event as an active player, and followed it up with a 2023 win in Vancouver.
The 2026 Laver Cup is slated to be held in London.
Europe is 5-2 overall. Those tournaments were led by the now retired captains of Bjorn Borg for Team Europe and John McEnroe for Team World. Yannick Noah is assuming Team Europe captain duties with Agassi at the helm for Team World.

Team Europe has US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz as well as Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik along with veterans Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev.
Team World has top ranked American Taylor Fritz (a native Californian) and next gen stars Joao Fonseca, Francisco Cerundolo, and Alex Michelsen, also from California.
