Per Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, Hard Knocks is pivoting to college football and will follow Belichick and his UNC Tar Heels as they prepare for the 2025 season.
This will be the first time a Belichick-coached team will be on Hard Knocks. The New England Patriots were never on the show during Belichick’s two-decade run as the head coach.
When Belichick was in the NFL, the old-school coach was reluctant to give any pertinent information to the media, fearing another team would use it against him on game day.
This last year has proved Belichick can be a media star when he chooses to be.
Belichick was a prolific member of the football media during the 2024 season. Belichick made weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show and The Manningcast with Peyton and Eli.
Belichick also joined Inside the NFL as an analyst alongside Ryan Clark, Chad Johnson, and Chris Long.
Belichick, 72, now enters his first season as the head coach at North Carolina.
College football has completely changed because of the NIL. Belichick knows this, which is why he hired former NFL executive Michael Lombardi to be North Carolina football’s general manager.
Hard Knocks could be used as a recruiting tool in the NIL era.
New York Giants Debacle Led Teams To Stay Away From Hard Knocks

In 2024, the New York Giants were selected to headline the first edition of Hard Knocks: Offseason.
The ensuing episodes were a disaster, as cameras recorded the conversations between Giants GM Joe Schoen and owner John Mara about Saquon Barkley’s free agency.
Mara said he would have a “tough time sleeping” if Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Barkley signed with the Eagles, rushed for over 2,000 yards, and helped Philly win Super Bowl LIX.
Because of the Giants’ debacle, the league and HBO were struggling to find a team for Hard Knocks.
Now, Belichick provides the show with a chance to continue this summer.
This isn’t a definitive report but in talking to league and media folks this past week it sounds like no team wants anything to do with an “Offseason Hard Knocks” this summer and it may be a one-and-done.
Hard to imagine why.
