Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin likely surpassed many pre-season prognostications. 

Can he produce a signature moment?

In his first year as a starter, Sayin enters Saturday’s rivalry matchup at No. 15 Michigan with 2,832 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and four interceptions. He paces the Football Bowl Subdivision with a 79.4 percent completion percentage and 185.38 QB rating. 

Leading the Buckeyes to an 11-0 overall, 8-0 Big Ten record, Sayin became the second FBS signal-caller over the past four decades to post three outings with a completion percentage of at least 80 percent, while compiling at least 300 yards and three TDs with zero interceptions. 

Sayin is proving to have a strong, accurate arm, completing 22 of 34 passes of at least 20 yards. His 95.9 grade on deep throws ranks second to Oregon’s Dante Moore (96.8), per Pro Football Focus. 

Buckeyes coach Ryan Day continues to trust Sayin to … 

“Lead the team to a victory. That’s it at the end of the day,” Day said, as reported by The Associated Press. “What does that look like? It depends on how the game plays out. But he’s got to do his job, make great decisions. He’s shown composure this year. But again, now he has to be at his best.” 

Sayin’s big-play ability lifted him into Heisman Trophy consideration, earning +425 odds, according to BetOnline Sportsbook. Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza (-130) remains the heavy sports-betting favorite. To rally past Mendoza, Sayin will have to have a monster game against the Wolverines (9-2, 7-1), who have claimed four straight in the heated series. 

“I think all around I can be better,” Sayin said.
