NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe sounded sarcastic following his top qualifying run at Kansas Speedway on Saturday.
After capturing the pole position for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 Presented by ESPN Bet, marking the seventh time he earned the right to start on the inside of the front row this season, Briscoe joked his conversation with some No. 19 Toyota crew members that “it seems like forever since we’ve been on the pole,” Briscoe told TNT Sports after posting a hot lap of 180.078 mph.
Briscoe, whose previous pole developed at Iowa Speedway on Aug. 3, edged Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin by 0.101 seconds. Kyle Larson qualified third.
“Glad to be back on the pole,” Briscoe said.
Hamlin was asked if his qualifying effort Saturday would help ease a brewing feud with teammate Ty Gibbs, following last weekend’s crash.
“Yea, I think so,” Hamlin said.

NASCAR Cup Series Machines Upping Horsepower In 2026
When the current NextGen machine was unveiled in 2022, a base horsepower of 670 came with the deal. The Cup Series teams lobbied for more juice and it looks like they will get it in 2026.
Speaking on the Stacking Pennies with Corey LaJoie podcast, driver Brad Keselowski said the ruling body will increase the machines’ horsepower to “740, 750” starting next season.
“Well, you know, it looks like NASCAR is going to change the rules next year to where we’re like 740, 750 (horsepower),” Keselowski said.
