A New Look for the Derby
MLB has significantly overhauled the format this year, moving away from the traditional timed rounds. Instead, the focus has shifted entirely to a swing-based structure.
In the opening round, each of the eight participants is allotted 20 swings, with the four hitters posting the highest home run totals advancing to the semifinals.
The semifinals and the final round follow a similar path, each limited to 15 swings per player. A unique rule remains: a round cannot conclude on a home run.
If a hitter connects for a homer on their final scheduled swing, they continue until they fail to record a home run, ensuring the tension remains high until the very last out is recorded.
