How Tyreek Hill Tanked His Trade Value For The Miami Dolphins

Tyreek Hill has been known throughout his career as one of the most explosive wide receivers in the NFL. But his future with the Miami Dolphins is anything but solidified, as he continues to give the team reasons to cut ties. There may not be much of a market when it comes to a trade, though, as Hill’s antics have essentially tanked his value with teams that may be interested in his services.
Tyreek Hill Continues Long History Of Off-Field Issues
Hill already had baggage when he arrived in Miami. All the way back in college, he pled guilty in a domestic assault case involving his pregnant girlfriend, which resulted in three years of probation. While playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, he was investigated for battery against his 3-year-old son, who sustained a broken arm.
But he was a key factor in turning the Dolphins’ offense into a high-powered juggernaut (at least for a season), and had back-to-back 1700+ yard seasons in 2022 and 2023. Miami was willing to look past his checkered history, and haven’t batted an eye at the troubles that Tyreek Hill has had while he’s been in South Florida.
In June 2023, Hill was investigated on assault allegations brought forth by a Miami Beach marina employee. Later that year, multiple paternity lawsuits were filed against him for child support for children he had recently fathered. It was later estimated that Hill could be the father of at least 10 children from 4 different women.

In 2024, a model/influencer filed a civil lawsuit against Hill, alleging that the wide receiver was responsible for breaking her leg. He was then pulled over and detained just hours before the start of the NFL season, in which the incident was caught on video just outside of Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
Most recently, authorities were called to Hill’s residence under reports of a domestic dispute with his wife. The call was apparently placed by Alesia Vaccaro, Hill’s mother-in-law, who said that she feared for her daughter’s safety due to Hill’s “very aggressive and impulsive” nature.
To add to the legal troubles, he has been accused of a lack of commitment. As the Dolphins prepared for their final game of the 2024 regular season back in January, Hill was absent from practice under the assumption of injury. He was instead making social media posts while working at the clothing store that he owned in a local Miami mall.
What Can The Dolphins Get In Return, If Anything?
So even if the Dolphins wanted to cut ties with the troublesome 31-year-old, their options would be limited. Sure, there would be teams interested in bringing in a dynamic speedster like Tyreek Hill, but what cost would they be willing to pay the Dolphins in exchange? A third-round pick is typically the going price for someone in his pay range and stage of his career, but his history of off-field issues likely diminishes that value.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Miami garner nothing more than 5th or 6th round pick value in exchange for Hill, which could be why we haven’t seen them move on just yet.
He is coming off of a down year, which had plenty of contributing factors that included inconsistent quarterback play. It was the first time that Hill amassed fewer than 1,000 yards in a fully healthy season since his rookie year, and his frustrations boiled over at the conclusion of the regular season. It was the first time in his career that Hill’s team missed the playoffs, and he was on camera saying “I’m out” when asked about the future.
Tyreek Hill has two years left on his current contract, and is set to have a $27.6 million cap hit in 2025, which is the 7th highest among all non-quarterbacks in the NFL.
