Iga Swiatek Gave Tennis Fans More Than They Deserved With Latest Social Media Post

Iga Swiatek cannot please all tennis fans. She is repeatedly criticized for virtually everything she does or does not do. That’s why she gave fans much more than they deserved with her recent honest and vulnerable social media post.
Swiatek covers many topics including the incident with the ball person at the BNP Paribas Open and her on-court demeanor.
What Iga Swiatek Said
Iga Swiatek is striving to be liked by the masses. Maybe that is her biggest mistake. From all appearances, she is a young, competitive professional athlete who seems to be a good person. She calls herself out on her mistakes and acknowledges that she is a work in progress, as we all are.
Iga Swiatek asks for grace in lengthy Instagram note:
‘When I’m highly focused and don’t show many emotions on court, I’m called a robot, my attitude labeled as inhuman. Now that I’m more expressive, I’m suddenly labeled immature or hysterical. That’s not a healthy standard’ 🗣️ pic.twitter.com/niSwpN3vZ6

She spoke about her behavior with the ball person at the BNP Paribas Open. Swiatek was under fire for bouncing a ball near the ball person in a moment of frustration during her semifinal match with Mirra Andreeva. She acknowledged her mistake and immediately cleared the air with the ball person.

Swiatek used to be accused of being robotic on the court, but now she is more emotional and is criticized for that. Somehow other players can be fiery and emotional and get away with it. Aryna Sabalenka smashed her racquet on the court after her Australian Open and Indian Wells finals losses, but her behavior does not appear to get the same level of scrutiny as Swiatek’s.
Conclusion
Fans can have favorite players; that makes following the WTA Tour fun. However, judging players’ actions is not fair. To begin with, very few of us know or understand their lifestyles and pressures.
More importantly, people tend to judge others by their words and actions; whereas, they judge themselves by their intentions. Tennis is these players’ life’s work; the amount of time and effort put into it from an early age is mind-boggling. Winning and losing happens with cameras fixated on them. Everyone should take a step back and realize that they are doing their best in the circumstances as we all strive to do in our daily lives, but recognize that human error is unavoidable.
