The Kansas City Chiefs have had their issues with the wide receiver position over the past two years. They’re entering the 2025 NFL season with similar concern at the position, and things haven’t exactly gone well during the first week of training camp.
Chiefs WR Unit Still A Question Mark
Despite their run to the Super Bowl last season (and their championship win the year prior), the amount of talent in Kansas City’s wide receiver room has remained a question mark. In 2024, the group was headlined by rookie Xavier Worthy and DeAndre Hopkins who was on a one-year stay. No player from the group amassed more than 640 receiving yards on the season, and their deficiencies showed when the games mattered the most.
There isn’t much reason to believe that the coming year will be any different. The three projected starters are Worthy, Hollywood Brown, and Rashee Rice, the latter two combining to play in just six games all of last season.

With Travis Kelce aging, the weapons surrounding Patrick Mahomes may have even less talent than in previous years. And based on how things have gone so far in training camp, it could soon be time to hit the panic button.
There were two incidents involving receivers during the Chiefs practice on Tuesday. First, Worthy was banged up enough to require attention from the team’s medical staff, though he did return to action and appeared to be good enough to continue.
But the case wasn’t the same for Hollywood Brown.
Is Kansas City In Trouble Due To Lack Of Weapons?
After suffering a preseason injury in his first year with the team in 2024, the then-27-year-old missed all but two games in his initial season with the team. There were hopes that he could come in and be one of the veteran leaders for the unit this year, and perhaps be amongst the team leaders in statistical output.

But due to a so far unknown injury, Brown was unable to finish Tuesday’s practice. Instead, he was seen being driven away in a cart after sustaining what looked to be an ailment to his lower leg.
Will the team look to make an upgrade at the position before the season starts? There are still a few big name wideouts still available on the free agent market, though the Cheifs may opt to use their youth rather than sign an aging veteran like they did with Hopkins a year ago.
