Former Iowa guard Josh Dix entered the transfer portal after a strong junior season and has committed to Creighton. Dix, a 6’6″ sharpshooter, averaged 14.4 points while shooting 42.2% from three last season. He’ll now join his former Iowa teammate Owen Freeman in Omaha, giving the Bluejays one of the Big East’s most intriguing transfer duos.

Creighton Adds Another Proven Big Ten Transfer

Creighton was always in the mix for Dix, but his decision to join the Bluejays came together quickly once Freeman announced his transfer. The program offers a clear system fit: Greg McDermott’s offense is built around spacing, ball movement, and efficient perimeter shooting—all areas where Dix thrives.

With minutes available on the wing and a team poised to reload, Dix will have a real opportunity to contribute immediately. His length, scoring, and experience fill a gap in Creighton’s rotation, especially as they retool for another NCAA Tournament run.

Why Dix Chose Creighton

Location and familiarity played a major role. Dix grew up in Council Bluffs, just minutes from Omaha. Playing close to home, alongside a former teammate, in a system tailored to his strengths made Creighton the obvious fit. NIL also factored in, with Creighton showing it can be competitive in the portal.

Other Schools in the Mix

Several high-major programs pursued Dix, including Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, and Indiana. Kansas was viewed as a potential visit destination before the decision. Nebraska made a late push, hoping to keep him in-state under Fred Hoiberg. Illinois and Indiana also showed interest as they looked to restock their backcourts, but Creighton offered the most complete package.

What’s Next for Creighton

Dix and Freeman give Creighton two proven Big Ten players who can make an immediate impact. McDermott now has key building blocks in place to stay competitive in the Big East, and Dix brings three years of high-level experience, strong shooting, and defensive versatility.

This move gives Creighton another weapon on the perimeter—and helps them keep a top local talent close to home.
