Kansas City Chiefs Are Aiming For A Three-Peat

The Kansas City Chiefs could become the first NFL organization in history to win a Super Bowl three-peat – joining an elite list of teams from other sports to complete a historic treble.

Nine teams in NFL history have won back-to-back Super Bowls – but the Chiefs could move out into a league of their own should they defeat the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9.

After winning their second straight Super Bowl last year, star player Patrick Mahomes made a guarantee at the championship parade.

He said as per Bleacher Report: “We know we had to go on the road last year, but I promise you next year we’ll be at home and we’re going for that three-peat, so don’t forget it.

“Don’t get it twisted. We’re doing it. Three times, first time in NFL history. We’re doing it.”

Below are the list of teams that the Chiefs could join if they emerge victorious at Super Bowl 2025.

Sport Teams The Kansas City Chiefs Could Join By Completing Three-Peat

NBA Teams Who Achieved A Three-Peat

The Kansas City Chiefs could join three NBA franchises who completed their own three-peats in basketball.

The Los Angeles Lakers – inspired by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal – were the last NBA franchise to complete a three-peat with consecutive championships between 2000 and 2002.

Before that, the 1990s were dominated by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

Jordan and Scottie Pippen inspired the Bulls to three straight titles between 1991 and 1993 before the former retired from basketball.

However, Jordan returned in March 1995 and with Pippen and Dennis Rodman led the Bulls to another trio of championships between 1996 and 1998.

Taking a look further back, the Boston Celtics dominated the competition by winning eight straight titles between 1959 and 1966.

MLB Three-Peats

There have been four three-peats completed in MLB history – three of which were achieved by the New York Yankees.

The Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000, four on the trot between 1936 and 1939 and five straight titles from 1949 to 1953.

Oakland Athletics are the only other MLB side to complete a three-peat, doing so between 1972 and 1974.

NHL Three-Peats

Like in NBA there are three teams in the NHL that the Kansas City Chiefs could join by completing a three-peat – two of which are from Canada.

The Toronto Maple Leafs completed two three-peats between 1947 and 1949, as well as 1962 to 1964.

Montreal Canadians won five in a row from 1956 to 1960 and then four between 1976 and 1979.

The only team from the United States to three-peat is the New York Islanders, who won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983.

European Champions League Three-Peats

There are a wide number of soccer teams to complete a three-peat in their domestic leagues.

However, when it comes to European competition, three teams have completed a three-peat in the European Cup – now known as the Champions League.

Real Madrid won the first five editions between 1956 and 1960, before Ajax won three from 1971 to 1973 and Bayern Munich did the same between 1974 and 1976.

Other Teams The Kansas City Chiefs Could Join With Three-Peat

Chiefs aim for three-peat

There are a number of teams who have won three-peats in professional and college sports that the Kansas City Chiefs will aim to join.

The Houston Comets won the first four championships of the WNBA between 1997 and 2000.

In women’s college basketball, Connecticut won three titles between 2002 and 2004, as well as four between 2013 and 2016. Tennessee also won three titles from 1996 to 1998.

In men’s college basketball, UCLA won every title between 1967 and 1973.  While in college football (not including co-champions), Yale won three straight titles between 1886 and 1888 and Minnesota won three on the bounce from 1934 to 1936.
