New York Knicks Landry Shamet Out At Least 4 Weeks With Shoulder Sprain

New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet will be reevaluated in four weeks as he recovers from a right shoulder sprain, sources informed ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.

Landry Shamet Suffered Injury Against Magic

Shamet suffered the injury during the first quarter of last Saturday’s game against the Magic when he collided with Orlando’s Wendell Carter Jr. He left the game and did not return.

Per Charania, Shamet has already begun the rehab process on his right shoulder, which is the same shoulder he dislocated during the 2024 preseason that sidelined him for about two months.

Through 15 appearances (six starts) this season, Shamet has averaged 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 20.9 minutes per outing while shooting 45.2% from the field and a career-best 42.4% from 3-point range.

Prior to the shoulder injury, Shamet had an impressive five-game stretch in which he scored in double figures in four straight games. The Missouri native also recorded a career-high 36 points against the Miami Heat on Nov. 14.

Last season, Shamet averaged 5.7 points on a career-best 46.1% shooting from the floor and 39.7% from beyond the arc. He posted a season-high 29 points in New York’s regular-season finale at the Brooklyn Nets on April 13.

Shamet returned to the Knicks in September on a one-year deal.

SNY’s Ian Begley reported then that Shamet had “other options” but chose to come back to the Knicks because he “wanted to return to a locker room he liked” and help the Eastern Conference contender “compete for a title.”

Shamet Playing In Eighth NBA Season

Shamet was selected 26th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018 draft out of Wichita State. The Sixers, however, traded the 6-foot-4 guard during his rookie season.

He has also played for the Nets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, and Phoenix Suns.

Shamet is currently in his eighth NBA season.

With Shamet sidelined, the Knicks are expected to rely on guards Jordan Clarkson, Tyler Kolek, and Miles McBride. Kolek played a season-high 17 minutes on Monday night against Brooklyn.

The Knicks visit the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday night before returning home Friday night to host the Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden.
