Matthew Stafford Trade Rumors: 3 Teams Who Might Deal For Rams’ QB

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been given permission to seek a trade, according to NFL Network. Stafford and the Rams have been in the process of negotiating a new deal, according to ESPN, but it seems like the two sides have different numbers in mind. As a result, Stafford’s agent has been given permission to speak to other teams about his market value, fueling trade rumors as the NFL Draft approaches. Below, we’ll look at three teams who could be interested in acquiring Stafford during the offseason.
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are coming off of a surprising 14-3 season and head coach Kevin O’Connell has already proven that he’s able to get the most out of his quarterbacks. Last season, he unlocked Sam Darnold’s potential on route to a career year. Minnesota will have to make a difficult decision when it comes to Darnold this offseason and signing the 29-year-old to a big-money contract after spending a first-round pick on J.J. McCarthy last season might not seem like a smart move.
Instead, the Vikings could trade for Stafford, allowing McCarthy to continue to rehab, get reps under center, and learn from one of the best veteran quarterbacks in the league. Stafford is 37 years old and might only have a season or two left in him, making him the perfect stop-gap QB for both McCarthy and the Vikings.
New York Giants
Most fans expect the NY Giants to select a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, the Giants want to win now and acquiring Stafford will give the front office a better chance to evaluate head coach Brian Daboll. Wide receiver Malik Nabers also hinted at his desire for the Giants to acquire both Stafford and Rams’ WR Cooper Kupp. Trading for Stafford will also allow the Giants to select the best player available with the No. 3 overall pick, which could end up being a generational talent like Penn State’s Abdul Carter or Colorado’s Travis Hunter.
Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns fans deserve more than they’ve gotten from the quarterback position in recent seasons. After opting not to re-sign Joe Flacco last year, Cleveland was stuck in a precarious position following DeShaun Watson’s season-ending injury. Watson is expected to miss the entire 2025 season and could become a cap casualty thereafter, opening up the door for a potential trade. Though Myles Garrett has already formally requested a trade, there is a chance that acquiring Stafford, a Super Bowl-winning QB, could change his mind.
