Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova

Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend lost a tight semifinal match to Cristina Bucsa and Miyu Kato.

Bucsa and Kato were shocked to pull off the upset and did not know how to celebrate at the net.  Those festivities quickly turned sour when Katerina Siniakova exchanged words with Bucsa.  Bucsa listened and turned away.

Siniakova was also spotted talking with the chair umpire before walking off the court.

Whether it was frustration or she felt wronged, it was a bit out of character for the normally smiling Siniakova.  She and Townsend have done a lot of winning since they joined forces last year with two Grand Slams (Wimbledon and Australian Open) and a WTA 1000 win at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

Townsend did not seem to acknowledge Siniakova in the camera views shown.  We know that she can be a mother figure if necessary and acted that way when she and her then partner Leylah Fernandez lost the 2023 French Open final.

Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend will reset

Siniakova and Townsend will prepare for the clay court season.  Siniakova won the French Open doubles title last year with Coco Gauff.  Taylor Townsend was injured in 2024 and did not play Roland Garros.

In the meantime, a shocked Bucsa and Kato, one had a Sunday flight out of Miami already booked, will play the Miami Open doubles final against the winner of the Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider and Jiang Xinyu and Wu Fang-Hsien match.
