Arthur Fils

France’s Arthur Fils, 20, made it to his second consecutive and second career ATP 1000 quarterfinal on Wednesday afternoon with an impressive three-set win over Miami Open’s top seed Alexander Zverev.

This match was postponed from a rain-soaked Tuesday. This may have aided Fils, who had a grueling and physical match against Frances Tiafoe on Monday.

Fils found his serve and signature forehand after dropping the first set.  The 2025 Sunshine Double has been good to Fils, who also made it to the quarterfinals last week at Indian Wells before losing to Daniil Medvedev.

Miami Open Quarterfinal Picture Is Complete

Very few would have predicted this particular Miami Open quarterfinal grouping.  Only two Top 10 players are left in the remaining eight: Taylor Fritz, World No. 4, and Novak Djokovic, World No. 5.

Fils will face Jakub Mensik, 19.  That match will be played on Thursday in addition to the Fritz and Matteo Berrettini match.

Arthur Fils is 1-0 against Mensik; their previous meeting happened at the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals. Mensik was infamously drug tested in the middle of the match.

Wednesday night’s two quarterfinals feature Francisco Cerundolo against Grigor Dimitrov and Sebastian Korda against Novak Djokovic.

Arthur Fils Likes The Big Moments

Fils reminds many of his French compatriot Gael Monfils in his love for the big moments.  He loves to entertain the crowd, hear their applause, and is not afraid of making big shots at crucial moments of a match.

World No. 18 Fils and World No. 54 Mensik meeting in a ATP 1000 quarterfinal at the ages of 20 and 19, respectively, once again prove that the next generation of tennis has arrived.
