When Jeff Jung, the father of two MLB players, scanned the 2025 composite schedule, he noticed Josh’s Texas Rangers were slated to play at Jace’s Detroit Tigers on Mother’s Day. To his wife, Mary, Jeff joked about possibly attending the game if both sons were on big-league rosters.

In baseball, one can never plan too far ahead.

First, both siblings had to be healthy. While Josh, the older brother, is a bit more established, Jace continues to search for his professional footing. The odds seemed long at the end of spring training when Jace struggled offensively and endured a demotion to AAA Toledo. He worked back into management’s graces and received a promotion last month.

That’s when the parents started planning.

But still, they remained cautious.

Over the past few weeks, Jeff and Mary started creating a to-do list in anticipation of creating a family affair.

The plans all fell into place Sunday as the Jung family celebrated Mother’s Day at Comerica Park with both brothers in the lineup. Mary was honored with throwing out the first pitch and conducted TV interviews with sideline reporters from both squads. Meanwhile, Josh and Jace became the seventh brothers to face each other on Mother’s Day over the past 45 years.

Both parents donned split-team jerseys.

Powered by Josh’s two-run, fifth-inning home run, the Rangers upended the Tigers, 6-1.
