Naomi Osaka And Bianca Andreescu Make Weekend WTA Tennis News

Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu made weekend WTA tennis news for decidedly different reasons.

Naomi Osaka

Osaka surprised fans by announcing her split with coach Patrick Mouratoglou. This dream pairing has unfortunately not delivered the results Naomi Osaka was hoping for as she returned to the WTA Tour after maternity leave. Some did notice that he was not with her at the recent Mubadala Citi Open, but no one thought much of it at the time.

Naomi Osaka, currently ranked World No. 49, is at a crossroads in her career. The four-time Grand Slam champion is trying to raise her game on a WTA Tour that has gotten more competitive in recent years. She will turn 28 in October and has said that if the tennis results do not come that she would prefer to be home with her daughter.

We hope to see more of Naomi Osaka winning on the WTA Tour; her game is such fun to watch when she is making her shots and feeling confident.  She takes the court on Monday at the National Bank Open in Montreal against Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault, ranked 515th in the world.

Bianca Andreescu

Sometimes it seems like a player cannot catch a break, unless it is a bad one. That’s what many thought when they saw 2019 US Open champion and tournament wildcard Bianca Andreescu twist her ankle on match point against Barbora Krejcikova at the National Bank Open on Sunday night.

Since winning in New York six years ago, Andreescu has dealt with an onslaught of injuries and illnesses including an emergency appendectomy earlier this year.

Andreescu currently ranked 187th won the match, but it is unclear how or what she will be able to do in her second round match with Mirra Andreeva who is seeded fourth in the tournament and ranked World No. 5.
