Team Penske expects to win at drafting facilities like Atlanta Motor Speedway. For 11 straight seasons, the Mooresville, N.C.-based organization has captured at least one race at drafting tracks.

Owner Roger Penske told reporters that Sunday’s Ambetter Health 400 was a missed opportunity as Austin Cindric experienced a late accident caused by an apologetic Kyle Larson.

The leader with 10 laps remaining, Cindric, who remains in the midst of a 22-race winless skid, couldn’t avoid Larson’s aggressive move to the inside. Larson was not clear of the No. 2 Ford, which hit the wall and ended up taking out Larson’s teammate, William Byron.

Cindric did not hold back from criticizing the 2021 Cup champion, telling Fox Sports: “Up in the wall, wrecked, and didn’t win. We’re not clear. I don’t know what information he’s getting. Obviously, my car is on his outside. It definitely merits conversation. It’s unfortunate because we led a lot of laps and had four of the fastest cars in Atlanta but didn’t win.

“It’s a shame.”

Cindric also had a chance to win the Daytona 500, before being taken out by Cole Custer under white-flag conditions.

“Two weeks in a row I feel like we have had the car to beat and haven’t done it,” he said. “One way or another it is disappointing.”

With Team Penske’s success at drafting tracks and its missed out on two season-opening opportunities, how will the organization head to the Circuit of The Americas for the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix?
