Denny Hamlin wanted to hear the negative reaction after the NASCAR Cup Series protagonist captured Sunday’s Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

“Bring the boos,” Hamlin shouted to the fans after he claimed the 200th win for the Toyota brand.

After starting from the pole, Hamlin led the field 75 of 240 laps and won by a 1.620-second margin over Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Chase Briscoe.

Win a win in the second outing of the Round of 16, Hamlin advances in his quest for his first circuit championship.

“The next few wins — knock on wood, if I can get some — are gonna be very, very special to me,” Hamlin said, as reported by NASCAR.com. “So this is the next step to getting that done.”

The 1.25-mile flat oval is known for giving drivers a feel for what Phoenix Raceway will be like for the Championship 4 showdown. It was the track’s first playoff event.

As the series moves on to the next stop – Bristol Motor Speedway – Hamlin seeks to position himself to ask for additional jeers.
