NASCAR Cup Series’ Hollywood Casino 400 Presented by ESPN BET Entry List: Dates, Event Times At Kansas Speedway
NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott placed a distant second to Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson. Still, the 2020 circuit titleholder refused to believe his machine was more than seven seconds slower than the 2021 series champion.
But Elliott ended up 7.088 seconds behind Larson, who dominated Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway by leading the field for over 90 percent of the 500 laps. The distance in which Larson won represented the second-widest winning margin since 1993 when digital scoring was introduced.
Both Larson, who jumped eight spots to reclaim the lead of the points standings, clinched his fifth win of the season. He also swept both stage wins to take the series lead with 12.
Elliott, meanwhile, has one event victory and a stage win. Still, he insists his garage is not far behind Larson’s.
“I didn’t think he was that much better than us, he just got through traffic really well,” Elliott told reporters after the race.
As the Cup Series enters the Round of 12 Sunday at Kansas Speedway, Elliott, like the rest of the field, will continue to try and catch up to Larson, who leads the series with 1,551 laps led, 634 more than second-ranked Denny Hamlin.
.@chaseelliott was 2nd in the Bristol Night Race, but a distant 7 seconds behind teammate Larson.
