NASCAR Cup Series Viva Mexico 250 Odds, Predictions & Best Bets At Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin’s day ended in Victory Lane last Sunday at Michigan International Speedway, but it nearly resulted in a race-ending accident at the start of Stage 2. 

Opening the second stage P2, Hamlin executed a few manuevers to evade a potential incident when Kyle Larson attempted to pass the No. 11 Toyota on the outside along Turn 2. The two machines touched.  

Hamlin got loose for a moment, but he saved it. 

“Well that was a f****** disaster,” Hamlin said on the team radio.  

Not really, but Larson sounded annoyed at his on-track rival. 

“Look out the f****** windshield, Denny, instead of the f****** mirror,” Larson said on his team radio. 

Hamlin did look ahead and went to display a masterclass in fuel savings to claim his third win of the season.  

Entering Sunday’s Viva Mexico 250 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, former Supercars ace Shane van Gisbergen was tabbed with the top sports-betting odds to capture the Cup Series’ first points race since 1958, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.

Viva Mexico 250 Storylines

• If things had fallen into place, William Byron could be working on a historic season. Sure, he’s leading the drivers’ standings, but he has only one win. He could have five. Like his experience at Michigan, Byron led for 98 laps but placed P28 after running low on fuel. Byron has led at least 80 laps four times this season and failed to earn the checkered flag.
• RFJ Racing went 3-for-3 in top-10 finishes Sunday for the first time since July 2016. Chris Buescher led the way with a P2, Ryan Preece earned a P9 and slumping Brad Keselowski a P10.
• Team Penske may possess the past two drivers’ championships, but it struggled mightily at MIS. Reigning titleholder Joey Logano placed P22, Austin Cindric P31 and ‘23 champ Ryan Blaney took a spin for P32.

Shane van Gisbergen (+325) 

The Supercars ace exploded on the Cup scene with a debut win at Chicago in 2023. As a full-time Cup pilot, he has not done much this season, posting one top-10 in 15 starts. But on an unfamiliar road course, van Gisbergen’s skillset propelled him to become the race favorite.

Chase Elliott (+800) 

It is hard to believe some are calling for Elliott, the 2020 Cup champion and one of the circuit’s most popular drivers, to lose his seat at Hendrick Motorsports. With eight top-five finishes in his past 15 road-course races, Elliott could quickly silence his doubters with a trip to Victory Lane. 

Tyler Reddick (+800) 

Still seeking his first win of the season, Reddick has been a hit or miss. He has one more finish outside the top-20 (four) than he does top-five finishes (three). Reddick could be a hit Sunday on a road course not many Cup drivers have experienced, considering he has three road-course wins since 2022.
