With his third NASCAR Xfinity Series win in a row clinched last Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, rookie Connor Zilisch, overcome with emotion, set his eyes upon a new desire.
“I see some bricks that look kissable and I’m going to kiss them,” Zilisch said, via NASCAR Wire Service. “This is awesome.”
Three days before his 19th birthday, Zilisch, the series’ top-ranked rookie, embraced his fifth win of the season and JR Motorsports’ 100th race trophy.
“I’m the smallest part of this team and I’m so glad to be part of it,” Zilisch said.
With five regular-season races remaining, Zilisch (+230) drew the second-best sports-betting odds to capture the 2025 series championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Points leader Justin Allgaier (+185), who placed P36 at IMS after crashing out from the lead with 13 laps remaining, remains the circuit favorite.
Sam Mayer finished on the opposite end of the emotional scale, earning a P2 from the pole during his debut at the iconic 2.5-mile asphalt oval.
“This one hurts a lot but I’m really proud of these guys,” Mayer said via press release. “It’s just that you don’t know what to do. I’m learning on the fly. This is my first full race here.
“We brought a heater for sure.”
