NASCAR Xfinity Series National Debt Relief 250 Entry List: Dates, Event Times, Cole Custer’s Fight At Martinsville Speedway
After climbing out of a local WWE NXT wrestling ring Friday night, NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Cole Custer kept fighting the next day during the Credit One NASCAR AMEX Credit Card 300.
His main combatant was Austin Hill, the eventual race winner who passed Custer for the final time with 12 laps remaining at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Over the course of the 200-lap event, Hill and Custer passed each other for the lead six times.
Custer appeared to make the “move of the race” on Lap 98, going from P3 to the lead, which soon extended to nearly five seconds. Hill utilized a long-run advantage to earn a trip to next month’s Championship 4 race at Phoenix Raceway.
“I thought we had it,” Custer told CW Sports. “We’ll move to Martinsville. We’ve had good runs there before.”
Ranked fourth in the playoff standings, Custer, the defending circuit champion, enters next Saturday’s Round of 8 finale at Martinsville Speedway with a 28-point advantage over No. 5-ranked Chandler Smith. Sixth-ranked Jesse Love remains 35 points below the elimination line.
“We have to bring everything we got (to Martinsville),” Custer said.
