NASCAR Xfinity Series Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250: Qualifying, Shane Van Gisbergen’s Pole Position, Lineup At Sonoma Raceway

Shane van Gisbergen did it again on a road course.

After claiming NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series race titles from the pole last weekend at Chicago Street Race, Gisbergen on Friday claimed his second consecutive Xfinity pole position, clocking a hot qualifying lap of 75.259 seconds at Sonoma Raceway.

“Qualifying to be front row for our team, thank you to JR Motorsports, our car is really, really good,” Van Gisbergen said after qualifying, as reported by SI.com. “Yeah, I was having fun out there.”

JR Motorsports’ Connor Zilisch, who placed second at Chicago after getting bumped by van Gisbergen with two laps remaining, will start Saturday’s Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250 on the outside of the front row. The rookie finished 0.244 seconds behind his teammate.

“Yeah, it was close, but not quite good enough,” Zilisch said. “Frustrating, I’m kind of frustrated with myself, but long race tomorrow.”

Sam Mayer and Jesse Love will begin on the second row, followed by William Sawalich, who earned the pole position for Friday night’s ARCA Menards Series West event at the 12-turn, 1.99-mile track.

Zilisch and Sawalich remain circuit rookie of the year contenders.

Taylor Gray posted a P11 qualifying run, but endured a blown engine and will be forced to start from the rear. Gray enters Saturday as the No. 12-ranked driver, eight points ahead of Harrison Burton for the final playoff spot.
