Two high-profile American WTA doubles teams will compete together at this week’s National Bank Open in Montreal.
Three of the four players are either recemt Grand Slam finalists or champions, and one is an up and coming star.
The last 4 Grand Slam finals have featured an American woman.
Jessica Pegula – US Open 2024.
Madison Keys – Australian Open 2025.
Coco Gauff – Roland Garros 2025.

Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula
The 30-something WTA veterans and friends, Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula, are paired together this week. Pegula has played doubles on and off for years with a variety of partners, most notably Coco Gauff and more recently Ashlyn Krueger.
Keys and Pegula have been frequent foes in singles. In 2025, Keys defeated Pegula in the Adelaide International final, the warmup tournament for the Australian Open. At the time, Pegula prophetically said if Keys played like that in Melbourne, she would win the Australian Open.

Hopefully, the two have similar luck at the National Bank Open where Pegula is the two-time defending ladies singles champion.
Pegula is the winner of seven WTA doubles titles. Keys has never won a WTA doubles title.
Coco Gauff and McCartney Kessler
Since stopping play with Pegula, Gauff has played occasional doubles with different partners. She won the 2024 French Open women’s doubles title with Katerina Siniakova. Gauff played the Italian Open with Alexandra Eala.
This week, she plays with McCartney Kessler who beat Gauff in singles at Dubai earlier this year.

Gauff has won nine WTA doubles titles. McCartney Kessler has never won a WTA doubles title.
Other non-American doubles teams of interest in the NBO are Mubadala Citi Open champion Leylah Fernandez and her sister Bianca Fernandez who are playing with a wildcard. Barbora Krejcikova who partnered with Siniakova to dominate women’s tennis until they dissolved their partnership is playing with another doubles’ powerhouse, Jelena Ostapenko. French Open champions Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani, Wimbledon champions Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova, Miami Open champions Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, and the newly minted Mubadala Citi Open champions Taylor Townsend and Shuai Zhang are also in the 32-team draw.
First round WTA doubles action at the National Bank Open begins on July 30.
