One year ago, the NBA and NBC Sports agreed to a new broadcasting deal, alongside ESPN and Amazon following a 23-year absence. According to Sportico, the network shelled out over $2.45 billion per year to bring the NBA back to the place that helped grow the league to historic new heights. That’s approximately $400 million more than the annual cost of its current NFL deal.
NFL TV ratings still make up the most-watched TV broadcasts, but now, NBC is looking to change that by putting together one of the best broadcasting teams in the business.
The network that once was home to household names like Marv Albert, Bob Costas, and Ahmad Rashad has already enlisted the likes of Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, Reggie Miller, and Grant Hill, along with broadcasting powerhouses like Mike Tirico, Noah Eagle, and Terry Gannon.
Now, another Basketball Hall of Famer is set to join the NBA on NBC broadcasting team.
The network recently announced that Tracy McGrady will join the squad at NBA on NBC and Peacock. McGrady will work alongside Carmelo Anthony and Vince Carter, as well as hosts Mario Taylor and Ahmed Fareed, according to the official NBC press release.
“Tracy has performed at the highest level both on and off the court and has already demonstrated his ability to deliver his unique perspective on air,” said Sam Flood, Executive Producer, NBC Sports. “Whether paired with Carmelo, Vince, or both, we’re excited to see how this team of Hall of Famers comes together and breaks down the game.”
The league’s media partners average well over $40 million in ad revenue per each national broadcast. With the network bringing in a star-studded lineup of former players, seasoned broadcasters, and big-name personalities, NBC is banking on attracting viewers during the pre-game show, halftime show, and post-game show, in addition to the game action.
McGrady Releases Statement After Joining NBC Sports
McGrady, a seven-time NBA All-Star and Hall of Famer, now joins an NBA on NBC crew stacked with star power. Known for his high-octane scoring, late-game heroics, and deep understanding of the game, McGrady is stepping into his first major national NBA broadcasting role.
In a statement through NBC Sports, McGrady made it clear he’s embracing the challenge.
“I’m humbled and grateful for the opportunity to join NBC Sports as the game returns to a network that helped shape so many iconic basketball memories,” said McGrady. “Basketball has given me everything, and I’ve always just tried to give that same energy back. I hope I can bring the same passion, insight, and love for the game that’s driven me since I was a kid, to all who tune in to watch on NBC and Peacock. I couldn’t be more excited to join this team alongside so many others I admire.”
Who Is On The NBA on NBC Broadcasting Team
With the NBA returning to NBC for the first time in over two decades, the network isn’t holding back. Even Michael Jordan is joining the crew as a special contributor, turning the NBA on NBC into a must-watch TV event every time he’s on the air.
From Hall of Famers to championship veterans to some of the most respected voices in sports media, the NBA on NBC lineup is built to grab attention and deliver star power every night.
