New York Yankees Valued At $8.2 Billion By Forbes

Major League Baseball has its first $8 billion team. The New York Yankees once again topped Forbes’ list of most valuable baseball franchises this year, and at a valuation that is $1.4 billion higher than the team in second place.
Yankees Top Forbes Valuation Of MLB Teams Once Again In 2025
The Yankees have been at the top of the list every year since Forbes began their valuation of MLB franchises back in 1998. This year, their number jumped 9% and up to $8.2 billion, making them the first team in baseball to eclipse the plateau. It comes just a year after the NBA’s first $8 billion franchise, and three years after an NFL team hit the mark.
They have one of the most recognizable brands in the world, and not just the baseball one. The Yankees logo is internationally iconic, and while the team has won just one World Series Championship over the last 25 years, they remain the main attraction for MLB, and by a long shot.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have become increasingly move valuable over the past few years, and the defending champions saw an incredible 25% boost in their overall value this year. It puts them at a number of $6.8 billion and into the rankings of the top-10 priciest franchises in all of sports, but still well behind the Yankees.

While George Steinbrenner has passed, it is still his family who remains the owners of the Bronx Bombers. Steinbrenner initially bought the team back in 1973, which ran at a cost of just $10 million in total, making his investment one of the most lucrative that we have seen in any sport, domestically or internationally.
Today, every team in the MLB is valued at over $1 billion. That includes the Miami Marlins, who are in last place on the list at $1.05 billion, while the league average sits at $2.6 billion. It is a number that has increased overall by 8% since the numbers were run in 2024. The largest increase of any team this year belongs to the A’s, who saw their valuation jump an impressive 50% as a potential move to Las Vegas looms.
Baseball teams still lack in their growth as compared to franchises in other sports, though. In just the last five years, NFL teams have appreciated 87% on average, while NBA teams have seen a dramatic increase of 101%. MLB lags behind at 36%.
