NFL Draft Rumors: Could The Titans Pass On Cam Ward?

All signs point to the Tennessee Titans selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But is that the smartest move for the rebuilding franchise? What other options do they have when filling out their roster?
Could The Titans Pass On Cam Ward In The 2025 NFL Draft?
The Titans entered the off-season as one of the handful of QB-hungry teams in the league, and they’re one of the few left. They were in a different position than others, though, given that they have the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. It is widely predicted that they will use the asset to select Ward, especially given the team’s actions over the past few weeks.
They went through free agency and added only Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle, who are backups at very best. They not only sent a contingency that included their GM, coach, and QB coach to Ward’s Pro Day, but they all took the prospect out for dinner the night before. It is likely that they’ve received calls from other NFL teams interested in trading for the pick, but they’ve been able to stand pat so far.

It feels like almost a foregone conclusion that we will see the Titans select Cam Ward on the evening of April 24th. But that might not be the best course of action, at least according to Scott Dochterman of The Athletic.
In a recent roundtable article, Dochterman suggests that Tennessee move down from the top spot, or use the first pick to select the best player available. He believes that is pass rusher Abdul Carter, who also fills a need for a defense that struggled in 2024.
He then goes on to propose a different plan to upgrade their QB position. Dochterman says the Titans should trade a fourth-round pick to Atlanta for Kirk Cousins, seeing as Tennessee currently has the 4th-most cap space of any team in the NFL. They could then look to pick up a guy like Jalen Milroe or Jaxon Dart in the second round, or look to 2026 to fill their need.
Will Levis is currently listed as the top QB on the depth chart for the Titans. It is likely that he is moved or released before the start of the 2025 season.
