NFL Monday Night Football Fans Respond To San Francisco 49ers Gut-Punching Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers woke up Monday morning in first place. It proved to be a short stint as co-leaders of the NFC South as Christian McCaffrey led the host San Francisco 49ers to a 20-9 victory on Monday Night Football.

McCaffrey collected 142 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown against his former team. His 31 touches marked the 11th time in his career that he mustered at least 30 touches in a game.

The Panthers’ inconsistency flared up again. One week after quarterback Bryce Young threw for a franchise-record 448 yards, he went 18-for-29 for 169 yards, one touchdown pass and two interceptions at Levi’s Stadium.

Young led the Panthers to just three first-half points despite the defense recording three interceptions, two by Jaycee Horn, before being sidelined in the second half with a concussion, and one by Mike Jackson.

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5) dropping their third straight Sunday night, the Panthers (6-6) chartered a cross-country, overnight plane trip back to Charlotte, N.C., in second place.
