NFL MVP Odds: Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford Strengthens Position In Defeat

Even in defeat, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford improved his sports-betting odds to capture the NFL MVP award.

Outdueled by Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold, who proved he can win a big game, Stafford threw for 451 yards and three touchdowns, but the Rams fell, 38-37, in overtime and dropped to No. 2 in the NFC postseason seedings, entering Saturday.

“We’re a very resilient, relentless group,” Darnold, a late-season NFL MVP candidate, said, as reported by The Associated Press.

Despite leading the Seahawks (12-3) back from a 30-14, fourth-quarter deficit to clinch a playoff spot, Darnold fell from BetOnline Sportsbook’s MVP odds list.

Stafford, however, improved his odds from -250 to -425. The 2009 No. 1 overall draft pick remains the overwhelming favorite over his two top competitors, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (+285) and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (+2500).
The Rams (11-4) play at the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday and need to stay within reach of the top-seeded Seahawks. Stafford and company could face wild-card road matchup if the Seahawks roll to an NFC West title.

Stafford suffered injured ribs during the fourth quarter of his last start, but is expected to dress Sunday. With nearly 10 days to rest, the three-time Pro Bowler will look to push the Rams past the Seahawks and attempt to clinch his first MVP honor.

Or has he already?
