NFL MVP Odds: New England Patriots’ Drake Maye Leapfrogs Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford made mistakes.

Plenty of them.

During last Sunday’s 31-28 loss to the host Carolina Panthers, Stafford, one of the leading candidates to earn 2025 NFL MVP honors, threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, failed to organize the offense in time for a key play and lost a fumble with 2:34 remaining in the fourth quarter.

With Stafford throwing his first interceptions since Week 3, ending his NFL-record streak of 28 consecutive touchdown passes, the Rams (9-3) suffered their first loss in seven outings.

“There’s never a good story without a little adversity,” Rams coach Sean McVay said, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Stafford, who passed Matt Ryan into eighth place on the league’s all-time passing yardage category, finished with two touchdown passes, but “nobody saved the day,” wide receiver Davante Adams said.

Stafford (+120), a 17-year veteran with 62,882 career passing yards, was tabbed with the second-best odds to capture his first MVP award, according to BetOnline Sportsbook. Sunday’s outing dropped the two-time Pro Bowler behind new sports-betting favorite New England Patriots QB Drake Maye (-150).

After not throwing an interception for 317 consecutive passes, Stafford threw two in three attempts against the Panthers. Cornerback Mike Jackson picked off the second one and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown.

“Can’t leave the ball inside and give them seven on that one,” said Stafford, who also took the blame for a late delay-of-game penalty. “That’s on nobody but me.”
