The NFL has begun its review of how the New York Giants handled concussion protocol for quarterback Jaxson Dart in the team’s 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

NFL Investigation Into How Giants Conducted Concussion Protocol for Jaxson Dart

In the third quarter of Thursday night’s game, Dart took a hit to the head from two Eagles’ defenders that required medical attention. Dart jogged off the field to the blue injury tent to be checked for a concussion by medical professionals.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll and running back Cam Skattebo both looked into the tent and communicated with Dart. Players and coaches are not allowed in the blue tent.

A frustrated Daboll was seen arguing with the team physician, Dr. Scott Rodeo, on the Prime Video broadcast. Dart eventually cleared protocol and returned to the game.

The NFL will conduct a joint review with the NFL Players Association about the Giants’ concussion protocol and whether they followed the standard procedure. The Giants could face discipline depending on the findings.

On Friday, Daboll explained his actions to the media.

“I went in, didn’t actually go in, just stuck my head in to see how our quarterback was doing. Just asked him how you’re doing,” Daboll said on Friday via ESPN. “In no way would I want a player to come back out there that wasn’t ready to play. I think I have great respect for that process.”

Daboll also apologized for arguing with the team physician. Daboll’s frustration stemmed from an impending decision he had to make involving a pivotal play call.

“I apologized directly to our team physician,” Daboll said via AP. “We were getting ready to go for it on a potential fourth down. I would have burned a timeout if he could have come out there. I was asking how long was it going to take. You want your guy out there, not at risk of anything else.”

New York Giants Upset The Philadelphia Eagles

Thursday night belonged to the Giants’ rookies.

Dart and Skattebo combined for 363 yards of offense and five touchdowns in the 34-17 win over the Eagles. It was the Giants’ first win on Thursday Night Football in a decade.

Down 3-0, Dart, who finished 17 of 25 for 195 yards and one touchdown, ran for a 20-yard touchdown in the first quarter. On the next drive, Dart then threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Wan’Dale Robinson to take the lead 13-3.

The next three quarters belonged to Skattebo, who scored three rushing touchdowns to power the Giants to an upset victory.

The Giants (2-4) hit the road to play the Denver Broncos (3-2) on Oct. 19.
