NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers To Speak With Seattle Seahawks About QB Vacancy

The Seahawks entered the pool of quarterback-needy teams last week. In something of a surprise move, Seattle traded away Geno Smith to the Raiders on Friday, reuniting the QB with new Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll. Now, on the eve of the start of NFL free agency, it has been announced that Aaron Rodgers will be speaking with the Seahawks about filling their vacancy.
NFL Rumors: Aaron Rodgers Set To Speak With Seahawks
Rodgers still has a year left on his contract with the Jets, but New York has expressed their desire to move on from the 41-year-old. The partnership between the two sides didn’t exactly go as planned, and the four-time league MVP will be looking for teams that are interested in trading for his services.
It appears as though the Seahawks are one of those teams. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Seattle is expected to speak with Rodgers about their QB vacancy.
Aaron Rodgers is looking to finish his NFL career on a higher note than his underwhelming seasons with the Jets. He of course would like to latch on with a team that is close to being a Super Bowl contender, but very few of his potential destinations are simply a quarterback away from being a top-tier franchise. Teams like the Giants and Titans are looking for a new signal caller, but neither is expected to be in contention any time soon.

Do the Seahawks fall into that category? The team is undergoing some serious changes, most notably to their wide receiver position. Longtime Seahawk Tyler Lockett has parted ways with the team, and DK Metcalf has requested that he be traded. Would Rodgers be open to signing with an offense that could be lacking a general direction?
There have been a couple of other NFL teams that have been mentioned regularly in the rumor mill. The New York Giants have reportedly shown interest, which would allow Rodgers to remain in the city, though it is unclear if the QB is keeping that as an option. The Vikings have been floated as an idea as well, and Minnesota might be the best possible situation for a veteran signal caller to step into.
We’ll start to have some answers to the QB carousel this coming week, as the free agency period is set to kick off on Monday.
