The Buffalo Bills’ brass could have created internal chaos.
During Wednesday’s press conference, staged in the fallout of firing coach Sean McDermott, team owner Terry Pegula targeted the presence of wide receiver Keon Coleman for the Bills’ season-ending last weekend.
Coleman caught a touchdown pass during the 33-30 AFC Divisional game loss to the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High. It was his only catch on three targets. The 2024 second-round draft pick posted 38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Apparently, it wasn’t enough for Pegula, who discovered a scapegoat.
“The coaching staff pushed to draft Keon,” Pegula said. “I’m not saying Brandon wouldn’t have drafted him, but he wasn’t his next choice. That was Brandon being a team player and taking advice of his coaching staff who felt strongly about the player. He’s taken, for some reason, heat over it, and not saying a word about it. I’m here to tell you the true story.”

Does Buffalo Bills Brass Believe In Keon Coleman?
With the Bills entering the offseason earlier than expected, an internal debate is fueling NFL rumors that Coleman will be traded. After Pegula’s comments, Coleman’s presence in the locker room could cause tension, at least a bit of awkwardness.
Coleman apparently was wanted more by the Bills’ draft room than by the former coach.
Video exists of president/general manager Brandon Beane wanting to add Coleman to the receiving corps. Beane sounded relieved that Coleman ran a 4.57-second 40-yard dash at the scouting combine. He believed it would help him become more draftable. Another clip shows Beane discussing his inclination to draft the former Florida State standout, unless he fields an overwhelming trade offer for the No. 33 overall pick.
After opening the season with eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown in the drama-filled victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 7, he only posted one game where he collected more than three receptions.
For Pegula, it wasn’t enough.
What will Beane do next?
There’s speculation that the Kansas City Chiefs would pursue the 6-4, 215-pounder, giving them a big, outside threat.
The San Francisco 49ers also could use reinforcements with Jauan Jennings prepping for free agency and Brandon Aiyuk remaining a question mark.
Wherever he goes, it will be away from the Bills’ self-inflicted chaos.
