NFL Rumors: DK Metcalf Seeking New Contract Worth $30 Million Per Year

DK Metcalf’s time with the Seattle Seahawks has likely expired, as the 27-year-old wide receiver requested a trade on Wednesday. The asking price is high, with Seattle seeking first and third rounds picks in exchange for the Pro Bowler, but interested teams around the NFL will be facing another set of negotiations if they are interested in bringing in Metcalf.

Known for his physical measurements and athletic traits, Metcalf has been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league since his rookie season. He has eclipsed the 900 receiving yard mark in each of his six seasons in the NFL, and was 8 yards away from the fourth 1,000+ yard season of his career in 2024. He is still considered to be one of the premiere wide receiver options, and will join a growing, talented list of available players at the position this year.

There will be plenty of interested teams that call the Seahawks to inquire about Metcalf. But on top of the high price tag that he’ll come with in terms of trade assets, other teams will also have to make him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the league.

According to NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, DK Metcalf will be looking to sign a new contract with whichever team trades for him. The player and his agent are looking for that deal to pay around $30 million per year.

That deal would put Metcalf in the top-5 (currently) in terms of highest annual salary for a wide receiver. Justin Jefferson is the leader in that category at $35 million per year, with CeeDee Lamb ($34m) and AJ Brown ($32m) not far behind. Metcalf would join Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tyreke Hill at the $30m mark.

Which NFL teams will be the most interested in Metcalf’s services? According to the oddsmakers at BetOnline, the Green Bay Packers (+300) have the best shot at landing him. The Patriots (+500) and Raiders (+700) are also considered good possibilities.
