Wearing a “National Football Conference Champions” T-shirt, featuring the Seattle Seahawks’ old-school logo, and hat, quarterback Sam Darnold held up the George Halas Trophy.
The rap on Darnold’s career continues to be turnovers and the inability to win the “big game.” Despite winning 14 regular-season games with the Minnesota Vikings last season, the franchise let the Pro Bowler walk via free agency.
In his first season with the Seahawks, Darnold guided his new teammates to a 31-27 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game at Lumen Field.
Darnold “shut a lot of people up,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said, as reported by Seahawks.com. “Really happy for him.
“You can’t talk about the game without talking about our quarterback.”
Darnold completed 25 of 36 passes for 321 yards, three touchdowns, and, more intriguingly, zero turnovers. He posted a 127.6 passer rating.
“Sam’s a baller,” Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV said. “You can doubt Sam if you want to, but Sam’s going to show up every time. That’s what we know, and that’s why I stood on that night for him and I’ll do it all over again.”
Darnold led the league with 20 regular-season turnovers, but performed error-free for three consecutive starts.
“To show up in a game like this when there’s still so many doubters, it’s big time for him,” Seahawks defensive tackle Leonard Williams said. “I’m so proud of him, so proud of my team.”
The Seahawks (-4.5) on Monday drew the favored Super Bowl LX spread versus the New England Patriots, via BetOnline Sportsbook.
Seahawks wide receiver Jake Bobo, who caught a touchdown pass Sunday, remains confident Darnold can continue to “shut a lot of people up.”
Let's hop on the trend, maybe the Seahawks will consider it if they see it 1,000 times.
