There has been speculation about what will happen in the future for Myles Garrett. He has spent the first eight years of his career becoming one of the more feared defensive players in the league, and did so while playing for the Cleveland Browns. But after winning just one playoff game since he entered the league, Garrett has apparently grown frustrated with the team’s situation, and has formally requested a trade.

Which Teams Could Trade For Myles Garrett?

The Browns’ front office should have no shortage of phone calls coming in. The interest in a 29-year-old pass rusher who is a perennial All-Pro and just one season removed from a Defensive Player of the Year award should be sky-high, and there should be plenty of offers for Cleveland to choose from.

Which teams are the most likely landing spots for Myles Garrett? Here are three possibilities:

Buffalo Bills

With playoff frustration building for the Bills, it is becoming increasingly likely that they will have to make a drastic move in order to have the talent to take down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The taste of disappointment is still fresh in their mouths after their AFC Championship loss in Kansas City, and it is the defensive line that Buffalo could focus on as they look to revamp for 2025 and beyond.

The pass rush for the Bills is not the worst in the league. While they ranked 20th in total sacks in 2024, they were 10th in pressures and 7th in hurried percentage, making them average at worst when it came to getting to the quarterback. But average isn’t near good enough for the expectations that Buffalo has, and certainly won’t do them any good against Mahomes in the playoffs.

It would take some re-working of contracts, as the team has nearly 28% of its salary cap wrapped up by the defensive line alone. Von Miller would likely be let go, and there are four other guys who are owed between $7 million and $20 million for the 2025 campaign. But Myles Garrett would be worth the money allocation, especially for a team desperate to stop Mahomes.

New England Patriots

Garrett said in his official statement that his ultimate goal is a Super Bowl championship. And while the New England Patriots might not be close to contending at the moment, they will certainly be one of the team that makes a call to the Browns’ front office.

New England certainly as the necessary assets. They still have all of their own early-round picks over the next two drafts, and have an extra 2025 third rounder coming by way of the Atlanta Falcons. They also have plenty of money, as they are projected to have, by far, the most available cap space to spend on free agents and trades this spring.

There may not be a team in the NFL who would be more desperate for a Myles Garrett type. The Patriots racked up just 28 sacks in 2024, easily the lowest figure in the NFL, and were bottom-5 in pressures and knockdowns. They have just two defensive ends listed on their current roster, one of whom played a total of 9 defensive snaps last year.

Los Angeles Chargers

This should be the off-season when the Chargers finally cut ties with Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. Los Angeles will save plenty of money by getting out of Bosa’s final contract year, and Mack saw a numbers regression at 33 years old despite being named as a Pro Bowler. They will most certainly need to revamp their pass rush, and what better place to start than with a player who has racked up 14+ sacks in each of the last four seasons?

The Chargers finished 6th in the NFL when it came to total sacks, and had the best scoring defense in the league. But the quarterback takedowns were a group effort, with no single player totalling more than 8.5. If they were to add Myles Garrett to the mix in replacement of Bosa and Mack, they would likely cement themselves as a top defense again for the 2025 campaign.
