Nathan MacKinnon keeps climbing the record books. The Colorado Avalanche center recorded three assists during last Monday’s outing against the Toronto Maple Leafs, recording his 313th multi-point game.
MacKinnon climbed into a tie with Peter Stastny for second-most in franchise history. Joe Sakic leads the way with 473.
Paced by MacKinnon’s 81 points, the Avalanche entered Thursday as the league’s top team – by a long shot.
Despite playing two fewer games than the No. 2-ranked Dallas Stars, the Avalanche (33-4-8) collected six more wins and paced the standings by 11 points. The Avalanche have been off since falling 4-3 in overtime to the resurgent Toronto Maple Leafs, snapping a 17-game home win streak.
They came within one win of matching the franchise record for consecutive wins at Ball Arena.
The Avalanche returns Friday to host the Nashville Predators.
BetOnline Sportsbook continues to tab the Avalanche (+250) with the top odds to capture the NHL Stanley Cup championship. The Tampa Bay Lightning (+650), who next play at the struggling St. Louis Blues on Friday, remained the league’s hottest team with 11 consecutive wins and drew the second-best odds.
The Maple Leafs were 8-0-2 in their previous 10 outings, but fell 6-1 at the Utah Mammoth last Tuesday. They play at the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. Vegas (+800) was tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for the third-best odds.
Nathan MacKinnon has 26 multi-point games this season in 45 games.
