Moments after the Calgary Flames earned a 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders at Scotiabank Saddledome, long-time defenseman Rasmus Andersson held his stick in his left hand and raised it as a nod to the fans who supported him over the past decade.

As his teammates lined up to exit the ice, Andersson stood and high-fived each player. Others, like left winger Jonathan Huberdeau, reached out for an extended hug.

The moment felt like a choreographed goodbye to a player surrounded by NHL trade rumors.

The speculation appears to be heating up.

NHL Trade Rumors Have Flames Trading Rasmus Andersson Soon

Will Andersson, a pending unrestricted free agent, dress for the Flames against the visiting New Jersey Devils on Monday?

Not if the Boston Bruins secure his services first.

According to Sportsnet, Flames general manager Craig Conroy coordinated a round of calls with his peers to gather the best offers. The Flames seek a first-round draft pick and an NHL-ready prospect in return.

The Bruins were granted permission to negotiate an extension with the 10-year veteran, a 2015 second-round draft pick by the organization. In 584 career games, Andersson posted 57 goals among 261 points. His best season with the Flames came in 2021-22. He collected a career-best 46 assists and a plus-30 rating.

The Bruins likely will not finalize a deal without first agreeing to a multi-year extension. Andersson, 29, is playing out the final season of his 6-year, $27.3 million contract. He has an annual cap hit of $4.5 million.

The Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs remain on the outside of Sunday’s negotiations, but could be an alternative if the Bruins eventually bow out.

The rebuilding Flames also could look to move veterans Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri before the March 6 NHL trade deadline.
