Patriots Starting Quarterback: Jacoby Brissett Or Drake Maye?
The dust has settled in New England. Will the Patriots start Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye at quarterback in Week 1?

Now official: #Patriots coach Jerod Mayo informed players in a team meeting that Jacoby Brissett is the starting QB, while Drake Maye will be his backup.

The competition is over. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brissett will be the Patriots’ Week 1 starting quarterback. Head coach Jerod Mayo informed players of the decision on Thursday.
“We have decided, or I have decided, that Jacoby Brissett will be our starting quarterback this season,” Mayo told reporters. “In saying that, as an organization, we are 100% behind Jacoby. There is no ‘You got a guy right here, you got a guy right there.’ We’re 100% behind Jacoby.”
Mayo will go with the eight-year veteran instead of starting the rookie.
The Patriots selected Brissett in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Brissett was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2017 and remained with the team through the 2020 season.
Brissett then spent the next three seasons with three teams: the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, and Washington Commanders.
Brissett is 18-30 as a starter, with 10,574 passing yards, 51 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions.
In March, Brissett signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Patriots.

Maye will start the season as the backup.
Maye, the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, showed serious potential during the preseason. In three preseason games, Maye went 21-of-34 for 192 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Maye also rushed for 32 yards and one touchdown.
While Mayo didn’t state this, the Patriots’ lack of offensive weapons along with a shaky offensive line is likely one of the reasons why Maye will start on the bench.
The Patriots will host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 on Sept. 8.
