Philadelphia sports fans are still understandably grieving an awful Thursday in their city’s sports history. The Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers lost their games, and the Phillies loss was especially painful as it resulted in elimination from the MLB playoffs.
For those thinking this catastrophe has never happened before, they are wrong.
X/Twitter statistics guru Greg Harvey dug through the record books and found out that it happened one other time in sports history. The unfortunate news is that it happened to Philadelphia nearly 42 years ago to the day.
Cities in history to have their NHL team lose, NFL team lose & MLB team lose in the playoffs & be eliminated all on the same day:

Deja Vu Philadelphia Sports And The Trifecta Of Losses
Harvey’s research indicates the same doomsday disaster happened on Sunday, October 16, 1983.
On that day, the Phillies lost Game 5 of the 1983 World Series to the Baltimore Orioles in Philadelphia by the score of 5-0, and the Orioles were crowned World Series Champions.
The Eagles were in Dallas and lost to the Cowboys 37-7.
And the Flyers lost in New York to the Rangers by the score of 5-4.
Philly Sports Fans Are Insufferable Today
Despite their teams winning two Super Bowls and one World Series in this milennium, something that the Orioles and Cowboys have not done, Philadelphia fans continue to walk around with gloomy outlooks.
While the Phillies are done for the year, the Flyers, under new head coach and former player Rick Tocchet, are just getting started, and the defending Super Bowl Champion Eagles are only 1/3 of the way through the season.
For those wondering about the Philly NBA team, the 76ers are still in preseason mode, but fans were thankful that they were idle on Thursday and play on Friday night.
