Ranking The Top-10 Best NFL Free Agents by Position

The NFL Free Agency period kicks off next week. It is one of the more exciting times of the off-season, as teams spend their available cap space in order to plug holes and build their rosters with hopes of competing next season.

There are some big names available this year, most notably at the wide receiver position. The crop for other positions may be a little light, and teams who need quarterbacks or linebackers could be better off utilizing the upcoming NFL Draft instead.

Top-10 NFL Free Agents At Each Position

Below are the rankings of the top-10 free agents at each position:

Quarterback

There are more than a handful of quarterback-needy teams this NFL off-season. But some will have to focus on the Draft, as the crop of signal callers in this year’s free agent pool isn’t exactly a deep one. Look for Sam Darnold to set the market after his career resurgence in 2024.

Running Back

This year’s group of free agent running backs includes a couple of premiere names, followed by some boom or bust options. Some are on the older side for the position, and some are coming off of big injuries.

Wide Receiver

Perhaps the most robust market in this year’s free agency, there is no lack of wide receiver talent to be had. Look for guys like Adams and Diggs to set the market this year.

Tight End

Evan Ingram will top this year’s list of available tight ends, which is a top-heavy collection. Many of the premier players at the position are locked into longer-term NFL contracts, so waiting a year for a new crop of free agents may be an option that many teams choose.

Offensive Line

The crop of offensive linemen is rather light as well. The list will be headlined by two former Ravens players, while Cam Robinson will likely be the most sought-after free agent at the position.

Defensive Line/Edge Rusher

There are elite pass rushers that are available via trade, but there are some solid options on the NFL free agent market, as well. Former Eagles’ players Josh Sweat and Milton Williams will likely set the bar as the best available defensive linemen.

Linebacker

The available linebackers this off-season represent a mixed bag. There are a couple of younger, elite talents at the top of the list, but the top-10 includes some aging veterans who will be signing short-term deals.

Cornerback

DJ Reed and Chavarius Ward will be two of the premiere free agent cornerback options. But this year’s crop is rather deep, and will be one of the more interesting positions to keep an eye on during the signing period.

Safety

Like the cornerback position, this year’s available crop of safeties is a strong one. Any of the top five listed players have the potential to be considered game changers for their defenses, including Jevon Holland and Talanoa Hufanga.
