Despite the team dealing with several injuries, Jonathan Kuminga was a DNP for the Warriors on Sunday. It was his fourth DNP of the season. For years, there has been a rumor of tension between Jonathan Kuminga and head coach Steve Kerr. Additionally, Kuminga’s name has been on the trade market for quite some time. ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that a split between Kuminga and the Warriors “remains strong.”

The 2025-26 season is Jonathan Kuminga’s fifth year with the Warriors. He was the 7th overall pick by Golden State in the 2021 NBA draft. Over five seasons, Kuminga has appeared in 275 games and made 97 starts. His most productive campaign was in 2023-24. Kuminga averaged a career-high 16.1 points per game and 46 starts. Since then, his production for the Warriors has taken a dip.
This past offseason, the Warriors signed Kuminga to a two-year, $46.8 million deal. On the surface level, it seemed like the team signed Kuminga for two more seasons. However, the second year of his contract is a $24.3 million club option. Additionally, his deal was team-friendly to the Warriors. His contract could easily be traded in two months.

Jonathan Kuminga will become available for trade on Janurary 15. With that, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that the Warriors will explore the trade market for the 23-year-old. He noted that a split between the two parties before February “remains strong.” Will Golden State find a trade partner for Jonathan Kuminga before the deadline?
The fifth-year guard questioned why he was a DNP on Sunday vs. the Bulls. Golden State was without Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Al Horford. However, Kuminga saw zero minutes for the Warriors. Jonathan Kuminga said, ” I just got to be a professional. Things happen. It’s happened before.” This is not the first time he’s had an issue with his playing time, and it will not be the last.
