Rory McIlroy Passes Phil Mickelson In All Time Earnings List With PLAYERS Championship Win

Rory McIlroy became one of eight players to win the PLAYERS Championship twice on Monday morning. The Irish golfer claimed a $4.5 million cheque for his victory and has now surpassed Phil Mickelson on the all-time career earnings list. McIlroy now sits second only to Tiger Woods, pushing Mickelson to No.3 among the highest-paid golfers ever.
Rory McIlroy Wins Second PLAYERS Championship
McIlroy held off J.J. Spaun in a three-round playoff, completing an exciting finish to the PLAYERS Championship on Monday morning. He became the first European to win the Players twice, winning his first in 2019.
McIlroy trails only Tiger Woods on the career money list, bringing his total to $99,709,062 in 261 starts. For the first time in his career, McIlroy has two victories heading into the Masters after winning the AT&T Pebble Pro-Am in February.
For 2025, McIlroy’s official earnings amount to $8,719,714 for the season and there is still plenty of time for him to add to his total. All four majors are still left, including several signature events. While McIlroy has never won the Masters, 2025 could be the year he finally completes his career grand slam after two signature wins.
After winning the PLAYERS, McIlroy is tied for 20th on the all-time PGA Tour wins list. He needs only one more win to have the most PGA Tour victories for any European player.
McIlroy Sits Second on PGA Tour All-Time Career Earnings List
McIlroy is just one or two paydays from reaching the $100 million club. Tiger Woods is the only player to accomplish the feat.
Due to an increase in purses, Tiger Woods’ earnings will likely be topped at some point. At 28, Scheffler is already within the top five, with $74,289,284 in career earnings.
McIlroy will catch Woods in about three to four seasons based on his paydays over the last few years. However, with the way McIlroy is playing, he can make a historic run like Scheffler did in 2024 and close the gap even faster.
