The New Orleans Saints introduced new head coach Kellen Moore on Thursday. See what Moore had to say about Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara and if the team plans to bring both back.

Kellen Moore Remains Noncommittal On Derek Carr

The first thing Moore must do is figure out who will play quarterback for the Saints next season.

Derek Carr is turning 35 and has two years left on his contract. Carr’s contract carries cap hits of $51 million in 2025 and $61 million in 2026.

When asked if Carr would be the starter in 2025, Moore dodged the question by praising the veteran quarterback.

“Derek’s a tremendous quarterback in this league,” Moore said via Jeff Nowak. “I’ve had so much respect for him, the journey that he’s been on. He’s a starter in this league. He’s a premier player in this league. He’s had a great journey. Obviously, going from Fresno State to the Raiders and now here.”

When pressed further about Carr returning in 2025, Moore sidestepped the question again.

“I view it as Derek Carr is a tremendous starting quarterback in this league,” Moore said. “We’re fortunate to have him, and we’re excited to go through this process as we build this roster together.”

Will Alvin Kamara Be On The Saints In 2025?

Kamara should be on the team for at least one more season.

Kamara, who will turn 30 this summer, has cap hits of $10.1 million and $18.6 million over the next two seasons.

Moore was much more direct about Kamara, saying the running back has a future with the team.

“Obviously, one of the premier players in our league,” Moore said of Kamara. “His ability to play in the pass game, in the run game, all the different versatile roles that he can play. A lot of people for a long time have been looking, ‘How can we find an Alvin on our football team?’ So that’s been a really important piece. He’ll continue to be a really important piece, and we’re really fortunate to have him.”

Moore has a lot of salary cap work to maneuver. The Saints are projected to be around $60 million over the 2025 cap.
