The Philadelphia Eagles visited the White House in Washington, DC on Monday in order to celebrate their Super Bowl victory. But one player got an early jump on the festivities, as star running back Saquon Barkley met up with President Donald Trump for a round of golf in New Jersey on Sunday.

Plenty has been made about the White House visit for the Eagles. There was a rumor that the team was going to turn down the invite from the President, which threw social media into a frenzy. The report was later deemed false, and the team put out a statement saying that they’ll gladly accept the honors when presented to them.

Quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts was asked on Thursday if he’ll be attending the ceremonies. His response was silence.
So there was an expected amount of criticism thrown in the direction of Saquon Barkley after his golf outing with Trump was revealed. He responded on Monday morning with a tweet of his own, explaining his motivations and actions, saying that he also golfed with former President Barack Obama not too long ago. He said he looks forward to finishing his round with Trump, and would prefer if people didn’t talk politics in his mentions.

Just six months ago, Barkley hit the links with Obama. Team owner Jeffrey Lurie was a part of the group, and Hurts attended as well, walking the course in accompaniment since his contract forbades him from golfing.
Saquon Barkley signed the richest deal for a running back in NFL history earlier this off-season. He was a huge reason for the team’s success in 2024 during his first season in Philadelphia, racking up 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. His efforts ranked 8th all-time in terms of ground yards in a single season.
