Saquon Barkley Reveals He Wanted The Philadelphia Eagles To Lose The Last Time They Played In The Super Bowl

Saquon Barkley has revealed that he wanted the Philadelphia Eagles to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs when they played at Super Bowl LVII.
The running back was not on the Eagles roster two years ago when they suffered a 38-35 defeat in Arizona to the Chiefs.
Barkley signed a three-year $37.75m deal with the Eagles last March after revealing that he was “fed up” with negotiations with his former side the New York Giants.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a stunning first season with the Eagles. He became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season – also setting a franchise record for rushing yards in a season.
With 29 rushing yards at Super Bowl 2025, he could break the record for rushing yards in a campaign including the post-season – which is currently held by Terrell Davis.
While Barkley is determined to win his first Super Bowl ring with the Eagles on Sunday, February 9 – it was a different story when the Eagles met the Chiefs in 2023.
Why Barkley Wanted The Eagles To Lose At Super Bowl LVII
Saquon Barkley was part of a New York Giants side that lost 38-7 to Super Bowl finalists Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional playoffs in 2023.
It was that painful experience that made Barkley root against the Eagles when they ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL’s showpiece event.
Barkley told reporters in a press conference: “Of course I was rooting against them (in the Super Bowl). They knocked us out of the playoffs at that time.
“So there was no part of me that wanted the Eagles to win. It’s funny to look back at it now on how I felt during that time.
“To now, being here with a lot of those guys who were part of that (Eagles) team and trying to finish the job and get us all a ring.”

Despite rooting against them at the time, Barkley said that his friendship with his Eagles means that he now feels the pain of their Super Bowl defeat two years ago.
“I think even though I wasn’t part of that team. When you’re able to develop a friendship with these guys and be able to go to war with each other – I felt like I was.
“I wasn’t there but I can feel in my own body and myself how it felt for them and see the confetti fall in the wrong colour.
“I definitely don’t want to be part of that and that is something that drives us.”
