Robert Griffin III made headlines on Thursday when he reposted a controversial image depicting a monkey in place of Angel Reese on the cover of NBA2k6. And while he reiterated that the image should have never circulated, he did the cause no favors by promoting it himself and adding some questionable text about Reese herself. Shaquille O’Neal has taken exception, and Shaq took to the air waves to call out RGIII in a major way.
Shaq Calls Out RGIII For Angel Reese Tweet
While appearing on the Off The Record Podcast with Bailey Jackson and Lachelle Smith, tbe NBA legend was asked about the situation. He didn’t hold back, taking off his glasses and facing the camera to deliver a message:
“RGIII, tweet another monkey post about by girl Angel Reese I’m gonna punch you in your f—–g face…I don’t usually do stuff like this but just stop it bro.”
O’Neal has had a long relationship with Reese, even calling himself her “protector” when it comes to the negativity she receives from fans and media. Both of them attended LSU in their collegiate days, and Shaq recruited Reese to Reebok for her shoe deal.

There has been plenty of backlash from RGIII’s post in addition to that from O’Neal. His twitter post had undertones of disdain for Reese, saying that the rising WNBA star shared a video that affected his family. He also added that Angel Reese hates fellow star Caitlin Clark.
O’Neal continued:
“It’s a shame that all the stuff you did in your life, you’re going to be remembered for your podcast. You’re going to be remembered for your podcast. That should tell you you’re not that f—–g great.”
After playing seven seasons in the NFL, Robert Griffin III joined ESPN as an analyst in 2021. He worked on both college and NFL shows and broadcasts, but was let go by the network in 2024. It has been reported that he will be joining FOX Sports and their college football coverage this fall.
