Cooper Kupp made his decision on Friday afternoon when he signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks. After spending the first eight years of his career in Los Angeles, the signing will be a homecoming for the 31-year-old wide receiver, as he was born about 140 miles away from where his new teams plays their home games.

Cooper Kupp, From Washington, Signs With Seahawks

Kupp was born and raised in a city called Yakima, Washington. It sits southeast of Seattle, about a 2 hour and 15-minute drive down Interstate 90, and is an agricultural region known for its apple, wine, and hop production. The city itself has a population of just under 100,000, with a metro area population of over 250,000.

Kupp remained in the area during his high school days. He attended A.C. Davis High School in Yakima, where he played both basketball and football, earning first team 4A all-state honors during his senior season, mostly recognized for his skills as a defensive back. He also helped A.C. Davis win a state championship in basketball.

But despite his success at the prep level, Cooper Kupp was only offered two scholarships to play at the next level, one from Idaho State and the other from Eastern Washington. He chose the latter, and was able to play in-state, though the campus was another 180-mile drive from Yakima.

While playing for the Eagles, Kupp was able to break FCS records that he still holds to this day. No other player in the division has ever had more catches, touchdowns, and receiving yards than Kupp, which earned him the right to be drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Los Angeles.

Will He Play Past His Current Contract?

The contract that he signed with the Seahawks could very well take him to or near the end of his playing days. Cooper Kupp will be 32 years old by the time the 2025 season gets under way, meaning that he’ll be 35 by the time his deal expires. He is well removed from being one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, as we are coming up on five years since he led the league in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

Injuries have taken a toll in the years since, as Kupp hasn’t played more than 12 games in a season since his impressive 2021 campaign. He played in just 12 contests in 2024, but was able to rack up 710 yards and 6 touchdowns despite the limited action.

Kupp will join Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jake Bobo, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the Seahawks’ wide receiver room.
