Free agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs is returning to the AFC East to sign a contract with the New England Patriots.

Stefon Diggs Signs With New England Patriots

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Diggs and the Patriots have reached an agreement on a three-year contract worth $69 million, including $26 million guaranteed.

Diggs comes to New England after spending the 2024 season with the Houston Texans.

The Texans acquired Diggs from the Bills in a trade for multiple late-round draft selections. Houston eliminated the final three years of Diggs’ contract and essentially made it a one-year deal.

Diggs, 31, recorded 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns in eight games. Diggs suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8.

The Texans were open to a reunion with Diggs and allowed the wide receiver to “test the market.” However, Diggs surpassed the Texans’ price range and elected to sign with the Patriots.

After being drafted by the Vikings in 2015, Diggs spent his first five seasons in Minnesota. The Vikings then traded Diggs to the Bills during the 2020 offseason.

Diggs quickly became Allen’s top target in Buffalo. Diggs had at least 100 receptions and 1,100 yards in four consecutive seasons.

Stefon Diggs Becomes Drake Maye’s No. 1 Wide Receiver

Drake Maye now has a No. 1 wide receiver in Diggs.

The Patriots had the most cap space in the NFL heading into free agency. After failing to sign Tampa’s Chris Godwin, the Patriots pivoted to Diggs, who brings a veteran presence to the young receivers’ room.

The Patriots’ wide receivers have arguably been the Patriots’ weakest position group in the post-Tom Brady era. A Patriots receiver has not surpassed 1,000 yards receiving since Julian Edelman in 2019.

Tight end Hunter Henry led the Patriots in receiving yards (674) and tied for the team high in catches (66).

Diggs joins former Bills receiver Mack Hollins as the Patriots’ two big pickups at wide receiver. The duo joins Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, and DeMario Douglas as the team’s wideouts.
